Dear Mrs. Janis Baughman:
Through this letter I would like to demonstrate my continued commitment to Elon University and express
my interest for the Assistant Director of Student Activities. Through five years of direct experience
working with the Office of Student Activities and the Student Union Board (SUB), I have had the
pleasure of finding my lifes passion, as well as seamlessly preparing myself for this current position
opening. While serving as the Moseley Center Graduate Fellow, I have had time to separate my
experiences and grow professionally, while continuing my education. I value the work of the Office of
Student Activities and I would be overjoyed to become a member of an office that helped cultivate my
love for student affairs.
While I know that the first concern you may have upon reading this letter is the completion of my
Masters Degree, I would like to bring your attention to my experiences. Working directly with SUB for
four years, I have a firm understanding of the office make up, culture, expectations, and work hours. As
one who came to appreciate the office early on in my time at Elon, my love for it has continued to flourish
and I have witnessed time and time again the impact that working in this office has on the university. My
direct experience gives me an edge on others and promotes a quick learning curve for the transition of the
office.
As a current staff member at Elon University, I appreciate and understand the responsibility that this role
holds. I am eager to fully step into the student affairs world, share my knowledge with all students, while
engaging in academics that will allow me to be up to date with current higher education and student
activity trends. I feel that through my time working with the Student Union Board, I have demonstrated a
fervor that is not only contagious but has fired my current career trajectory. I welcome the opportunity to
speak with the hiring committee to share my passion for student activities, my personal and professional
qualifications, and appreciation of Elon. My desire for challenge will complement the students passion,
