PERSONAL STATEMENT

I will represent the NASW code of ethics as a future social worker. Service, Social
Justice, Dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and
competence are the six NASW ethical values that will be displayed throughout my work. I do as
much volunteer work as possible and I pursue social change where it is needed. I am a very open
minded person and I treat every person with respect while being sensitive to differences in
cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I am always acknowledged for my honesty and ability to keep a
trustworthy relationship going. I do my best to always try to obtain a better understanding of
social work skills and hope to keep up with all of the new professional skills that are out there to
be learned. I plan to try and participate in social work research when I am needed and I will
always try to stay up dated with the political agendas of our candidates.
The BSW program has taught me to identify as a professional social worker. Through
mock skits in class and through real life situations at my internship, I have had plenty of practice
conducting myself as accordingly with the social work standards. I have a new understanding of
professional boundaries and a deeper respect for supervision as it provides assistance and
guidance to me during my internship. I have also had the opportunity to engage in diversity and
difference in practice through working with many diverse populations. Working with families
provided me with different practice methods. Lastly, this opportunity has given me the chance to
assess clients and help them through their crisis. The BSW program has provided me with
multiple opportunities to grow into the professional social worker that I am becoming. Through
the two year program and one year of field placement, I have learned a lot about myself. I have
also learned how to understand the competencies provided by the social work program. I am
grateful for this program and look forward to furthering my education in the MSW program
within in the next few years.
