DHINAM ORU KATHAI-2.

How ego ( ahankaram or garvam ) destroys a person is revealed from this story.
Lord Sri.Krishna who hailed from Yadava community (Cowherd) used to protect
yadavas whenever they were in trouble. This developed a sort of ego in the mind of
yadavas that no one could shatter them as they were enjoying the company of
Sri.Krishna. Once great sages like Vishwamitra, Brugu,Kanva,Athri,Vasishta gathered
in a sacred place. Yadavas instead of respecting them wanted to indulge in a
mischief by making fool of these sages. They dressed a man like a pregnant woman
and brought him to the sages and requested them to bless the woman with a good
child. The sages knowing that Yadavas were making fun of them wanted to teach
them a lesson. The sages cursed him to give birth to a musalam ( ulakkai in tamil),
a kind of wooden pole covered with metalic caps at both ends used to hit grains.
They further cursed that because of it only the whole of Yadavas would perish.
The curse became true and the man gave birth to a musalam. Scared about their
death Yadavas burnt the musalam into ashes. However the metalic caps of the
musalam were ignored and they went into the hands of a hunter who utilized it for
his arrows. The ashes merged with soil and sharp grass plants grew from the soil.
Yadavas were thinking that they had fully escaped from the curse.
One day Yadavas picked up a quarel and started fighting each other. The fight
became vigourous and each one took a sharp grass that grew out of the musalam
and killed each other.Even Sri.Balarama and Sri.Krishna were not exceptions. On
seeing this Balarama the elder brother of Krishna left his body and reached
Vaikuntam. The hunter who used the metalic edge of the musalam for his arrow
shot the arrow at the feet of Sri.Krishna, thinking it to be a deer when Krishna was
asleep. Thus came the end of Sri.Krishna.
