The Curious Case of Evgeni Malkin

1. Malkin this season and his usage (p60 this year v last year? Shot
rates?)
2. Two Power Play Units
stat_sam pointed out that the more productive power play
producer of the two is Geno. Crosby unit was clearly being
treated as the first united vased on the defensemen. Small
sample but how many shots did they produce? (Cite Lyles work
on power play). Malkin leads team in power play goals.
3. What should happen this year? Johnston needs to be fine tuning
at this point. Good news is that the healthy team looks good.
Malkin has a higher career sh% percentage in the shootout than
Letang and its over a larger sample. Need to not alienate him. (If
he and Sid got roughly equal power play time, it would help
counter the idea that this is because of an injury issue)
