RESEARCH TOPIC

The viability of Green Sustainable Products in the University of the West Indies.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Green Products as defined by Enviro News and Business are those that have less of an impact
on the environment or are less detrimental to human health than traditional equivalents. Green
products might, typically, be formed or part-formed from recycled components, be manufactured
in a more energy-conservative way, or be supplied to the market with less packaging. There
exists therefore a unique need for the campus community to supply green products to students
within the University environment. The demand for green consumer goods has been on the rise
recently since according to SustainableBusiness.com, Despite difficult economic times,
consumers are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. Given this increased
interest in the environment over the past few years, nearly every segment of consumer products
now offers a green option for shoppers.

As a result of this, the members of the group propose to find out whether students will demand
green products. We propose to utilize survey instruments such as questionnaires and interviews
to determine whether there exists in the University of the West Indies a viable market for Green
Products. It is hoped that the results of this market research will influence the campus
community suppliers to sell green products to the student population and fuel the growth of the
green sector.
