UNDERSTANDING LEADERSHIP
In the article written by W.C.H prentice the significant point the author is highlighting
is that the leadership is the achievement of goal through the management of human
assistants. Prentice believes that a good leader is one who offer importance to each
worker so that he can see his own interest in carrying out the group. Prentice believed
that if a leader can get to understand his fellow workers through communication and
involvement they will then get to know how their single goals can contribute the overall
goals of the organization. Different to most beliefs in prentices article he explains the
most subordinates are driven by achieving set goals in the best possible way rather
than financial reward.
With my own team I believe as the author has highlighted that I as a leader will only
be determined by the success of the team or function. It is important to note that as
the author explains us as human beings are not machines, but are very complex and
react differently too many differing situations within the organization. This is very
important within my own team as I believe all the teams are focused and goal driven.
The author has given two analogies such as the military style or the diagram of a
football team play.
As prentice has specified to be a successful leader, he/she needs to understand that
individuals are complex and different. No two people are the same. Some individuals
will come to work and carry out their activities.
According to apprentice another important factor is that the successful leader will
have been prepared for any hard responses from workers' side. He will have known
that many of his workers have been brought up to consider their employers as their
natural enemies, and that habit has made it second nature for them to act like an
employee in this respect.
In apprentice opinion, Leadership is an interaction among people. It requires followers
with particular traits and particular skills and a leader who knows how to use them.

Leadership, despite what we sometimes think, consists of a lot more than just
understanding people, being nice to people, or not pushing other people around.
As in this article Prentices rejecting the idea of leadership as the exercise of power and
force or the possession of extraordinary analytical skill.
