Color Wheel
The

color wheel is a visual representation

of color theory. In other words it is a visual
representation
of
colors
arranged
according to their chromatic relationship.

Over

the years, many variations of the

basic design have been made, butthe
most common modern version of the color
wheel is made up of 12 colors, and is
based on the RYB (or artistic) color model.

Color Schemes

There are basically 5 color schemes:

Complementary color scheme
Analogous color scheme
Split Complementary color scheme
Triadic color scheme
Tetradic (double complementary) color scheme

Complementary color
scheme
The

complementary color scheme uses

two colors that are directly opposite to
each other on the color wheel. Eg : red
and green .

Analogous color scheme

An

analogous color scheme is created

from colors adjacent to each other on
the color wheel. Eg: yellow and orange

variation
on
the
standard
complementary scheme, the split
complementary
scheme
uses
a
dominant color and the two colors
adjacent to its complementary color.

Triadic color scheme

The

triadic color scheme uses three

colors, equally spaced around the
color wheel.
The
scheme is not quite as
contrasting as the complementary
scheme, but gives a more balanced
and harmonious appearance.

Tetradic color scheme

The

tetradic (double
complementary) color scheme uses
four colors, arranged into two
complementary color pairs. This
scheme offers by far the greatest
variety, but it can be hard to get
right.
