PRESS RELEASE EMBARGO UNTIL NOV. 16 AT 11:00 am

PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT BOYCOTT OF HEAVEN HILL PRODUCTS
November 16, 2015
17th and Maple
11:00 a.m.
The California Neighborhood Leadership Council as part of the Coalition for a Sustainable
West Louisville responds to last weeks announcement regarding the $5 million deal by
Heaven Hill, Star Energy and Mayor Fisher that baffled and angered many in the community
and West Louisville overall. The Leadership Council and the Coalition oppose the methane
gas plants proposed for West Louisville neighborhood. We take issue with the manner in
which the deal was made. This was obviously an attempt to drown out the loud and clear
message from West Louisville and its friends: No methane gas plant in California or any
neighborhood with families, homes, churches and schools nearby. In the U.S., methane
plants are located outside neighborhoods. Even the EPA says putting a methane gas plant
in this densely populated area would set a precedent. In fact, at an EPA workshop held at
U of L recently, panelists and attendees cited forcing a methane plant on this neighborhood,
as a case of the environmental injustice.
Kevin Cosby, David James and other deal-makers have either been silent or have hedged
on the issue of methane. By excluding the neighborhood, ignoring its sentiments, then
making deals effecting the neighborhood, they appear to be complicit in that injustice. They
are exploiting rather than advocating for California.

As we approach the holidays, our

ongoing boycott against Heaven Hill Products continues.

To our friends near and

far.please continue to forgo Heaven Hill products throughout the holiday season. We ask
merchants, please take Heaven Hill products off the shelf. Heaven Hill keeps saying no to
us. We are asking the public to join us in saying No to Heaven Hill.
