‘Multimodal Project Proposal
For our multimodal project, we will research and discuss the history of prisoners of war
and how the practices involved have varied due to time and cultural differences. One of us will
research history before the World Wars and the other will conduct research from World War I to
present day. We will explain our topic using a Prezi presentation to display our findings, We
chosé this topic because Mason’s grandfather was a prisoner of war during the Civil War. This
pic seemed interesting so we wanted to lea more about the differences in the way prisoners
of war were treated and regarded by different groups of people at different time periods. : o
In order to support our research, we will utilize several different methods to display what
we have leamed. The Prezi we create will include pictures and videos as well as diagrams, maps "
and writing, all situated on a timeline which will be the main backdrop for the whole
presentation. We plan to research information as ancient as the Greeks and Egyptians all the way
through modem day Iraq and ISIS and the practices of all governments and militaries related to
prisoners of war. We will study how these prisoners were treated by multiple different cultures
and how each culture changed its treatment of prisoners of war over time. Included in our
studies, we will also research why people were taken captive and the processes by which these |,
captives were retumed to their home countries. We will lear about the war stories of some of}
these prisoners and select a few to research more in depth. We will also discuss whether or not
the attitudes of the civilians viewing the atrocities paralleled those of their countries military. This plan will be a good way to learn about our topic in order to present it because it will
show us multiple angles and viewpoints on the topic and it is broad enough to simplify if we end
up needing to. It is important that others learn about the history of prisoners of war so they know
what men are capable of doing in the name of protecting their own country, be it good or
atrocious. Presenting on this topic will also help inform people of more recent incidents of taking
Ue
‘Sam will research information regarding prisoners of war prior to the world wars. Mason --
prisoners of war that they did not realize were occurring,
will research information about times during and after the World Wars. Each of us will organize
our findings and then collaborate in putting our information into a Prezi to present to the class.
‘We will choose the most important or meaningful research that will best support and explain ot
topic as we will likely find more than can fit into twenty-five slides.
By week ten, when we will meet in class to discuss how our projects are going, we will
have found most of the research necessary for our presentation. By week twelve, we will have
begun compiling our information into one document, the Prezi, and will begin organizing the
information so it is placed in appropriate locations. By week thirteen, we will have made final
edits to the placement and quantity of information inserted into the presentation. By week
fourteen, we will have practiced presenting our Prezi to make sure it fits into the time constraints
and conveys our topic in a way that the class will appreciate and enjoy.
