SEC-ED: Critical Music Response Structured Discussion Schedule


Use this schedule to conduct a structured discussion for the first 15 minutes of
instructional time during each day of the unit.

Prior to SEC-ED:

arrange seats in a U-shape (prior to class if possible)


teacher should identify students who chose each activity
if an activity was not chosen, simply skip it on the schedule
Existential/Intrapersonal Students: submit critical questions to the
Interpersonal students prior to discussion
Total Discussion Time: 15 minutes

[2:00 minutes]
Interpersonal: Introduce the critical questions you received from the
Existential/Intrapersonal students. If you did not receive questions,
summarize the major points you want to address during the discussion.
[3:00 minutes]
Verbal: Students who responded in their journals should offer responses
to critical questions if possible, or contribute one to two ideas they took
away from the song.
[3:00 minutes]
Auditory/Musical: Students should identify their auditory reactions to
the songs use of instrumentation, tempo, lyricism, and style.
[3:00 minutes:]
Kinesthetic/Artistic: Students who contributed graffiti should address
how their art connected to the songs tone, style, or theme.
[3:00 minutes]
Existential/Intrapersonal: Students should address any remaining
critical questions they may have.
[1:00 minute]
Interpersonal: Students summarize briefly the main points of the critical
discussion.
