COMP1302
For the 40% compulsory question: there will be 5 small sections each
worth 8% marks covering the following topics:
Descriptive section on one of the advanced topics of the syllabus.
An application of a scenario on fundamental modelling concepts
Practical section on producing and understanding SQL code
Evaluation of short statements that cover fundamentals functions in DBMS.
Comparison/Contrasting two concepts on data administration topics
COMP1303
A) 2-tier, 3-tier and Object models for DIS
B) Access, location, failure, concurrency and implementation transparency
COMP1304
The compulsory question will be set on requirements analysis and IS development tools
covered in the syllabus such as Use Case Modelling, Rich Pictures, or development
frameworks. Normally part of the question will exam the students on the underpinning theory
of the tools used during the completion of the coursework

For OOSD the compulsory 40% will be on lectures 6a and 6b, 14 and 15 which cover class
design, common design patterns and J2EE design patterns.

COMP1309
The compulsory question for Web Engineering will be on XHTML and XML. Students are
advised that to answer this question, a good understanding of CSS, JavaScript, HTML and
XML code will be needed.

The compulsory question will be based upon the following parts of the syllabus:

Content:
The students will need to understand the impact of IT on the strategic future of the
organisation. They will need to understand to what degree IT can help an organisation
maintain an advantage over its rivals.

Content:
The students will need to understand the following:
Rapid Application Development Techniques
General RAD concepts, DSDM method: background to the method, framework of the
method, DSDM principles, time versus functionality, when to use the method, technology
support.
Appraisal of application development environments.
