Question and Problems:

1. Explain why the receiving end voltage of a Nominal Circuit at no load is

no longer equal to its sending end voltage.
It is due to the voltage drop at the line impedance and admittance at
no load condition

unlike in the short line, at no load, there is no

voltage drop at the line impedance because it creates an open circuit

system thats why Receiving end voltage at no load is equal to the
Sending Voltage.
2. What is the voltage across each of the shunt capacitance of a Nominal
Pi Circuit?
The voltage across the leftmost and rightmost part shunt capacitance
is equal to the voltage across the Sending end voltage (line to neutral)
and Receiving end voltage (line to neutral) respectively.
3. How is the Power loss determined in a Nominal Pi Circuit?
This is assuming that the questions is talking about the apparent
power loss. The power loss in a single phase is computed as the
product of the square of the current passing to the line impedance of
the line impedance and three times the product when the system is
three phase. Power loss is also the difference between the sending end
power and receiving end power.
4. A 120km transmission line has a series impedance of
and shunt susceptance to neutral of

Siemens. It is

supplying a balance three-phase load of 30 MVA at 115 KV at 80%

lagging power factor. What is the voltage regulation and efficiency of
the line? (Use Nominal Pi equivalent circuit).
