Reading Pictures

Part 1:
Look at your picture, and describe the following:
1. See: What do you see in the image?
a. Who are the characters? What are they like?
b. What is the context of the story?
c. What is the characters relationship to each other? How do you
know?
d. What is the framing of the picture? Is it zoomed in or out? Is it a
larger panel (panning across) or a smaller panel? Is the picture
shot/drawn looking up or looking down?
e. How is the picture organized (form)?
f. What else is in the picture?
g. Are there any colors/contrasts? What are they?
2. Think: What do you think is happening/the image is is about? Why do you
think this?
3. Wonder: What do you wonder will happen next? What do you wonder has
happened before? What else does this image make you wonder?
Part 2:
Look at your comic as a whole, and answer the following:
1.

5.

What is the hook?


What is the dramatic question/tension?
What are the action steps?
Is there anything surprising?
What is the resolution?

6. What is the theme of the story?
