If there was one thing that could be changed in the student handbook what should it be?
The most obvious and best option by far is to, change from the seven-point grading scale to the
more commonly used ten-point scale. Though some people believe that the seven-point scale
makes students try harder and that it better prepares them from life, in truth though, those people
only see this through a single view-point. This school should switch to the ten-point scale
because it is used by most schools in the nation, it is the standard scale of colleges, and it is more
efficient than a seven-point scale.
First and foremost, the school should switch to a ten-point grading scale because it is the
most commonly used scale in the country. Some students learn of the ten-point grading scale and
see it as easier than the seven-point scale start to dislike their own grading scale and maybe even
reflect those feelings onto their own school. Eventually those students who have started to dislike
their school for its grading scale may seek to transfer to a school that uses a ten-point system.
Students who transfer here from other schools can be really thrown off by the seven-point system
and may start off the year poorly.
Additionally the ten-point grading scale is used by colleges. By using a ten-point grading
scale students are being prepared for their college careers. Students who have spent their entire
Middle and High School careers using a seven-point scale can be seriously thrown of by the tenpoint scale in college since they have had no prior experience with it. When students get to
college they could see the ten-point scale as being much easier than the seven-point scale and

could very well make the mistake of thinking that they don't need to try as hard and could
possibly fail the course.
Finally a ten-point grading scale is more efficient than the seven-point scale. With the
ten-point system students will be more inclined to try harder since the scale appears easier and
higher grades seem more attainable. Ten-point grading scales are more comprehensible and
easier to memorize. If a student's grades were to drop a seven-point scale makes it more difficult
to bring them back up than with a ten-point scale which would make switching over to one less
stressful.
This school should switch over to a ten-point system. First off, almost every other school
in th U.S. uses a ten-point grading scale. Secondly, every college in the world uses a ten-point
grading scale. Finally, the use of a ten-point grading scale is much more efficient than the sevenpoint. Undoubtably this school would be much better off if it were to switch to a ten- point
grading scale.
