Discuss from Levinas ethical view the statement of Jean Valjean: To love another

person is to see the face of God.

The meaning of this quote from the movie Les Miserables is simply, we should do
good, that our actions, such as helping others are more than our prayers. According to
Levinas substitution, if the need to respond comes first before the action presents itself,
then you are doing that act to satisfy your desires. You are not helping others, instead,
you are helping yourself. Helping should not be done because we feel good about doing
it, instead it should be done because they need help. As discussed previously, human
nature is selfish, we do things for our sake, no matter what we do. to The point here is
that we should learn to love others as God has loved you. However, as stated in the
readings, one should not use God within the realms of Philosophy.
