Working in pairs, students are to consider the following


scenario:
You are the owner of a catering company in Wangaratta. You
currently employ 15 people.
You employ two chefs full time. However, your business is
growing steadily and you need to start looking for another
chef.
You have to decide how are you going to find another chef?
Discuss as many options as possible.

Students are to draw up a 2x2 matrix (demonstrate on the


board) and complete to analyse the pros/cons of using
internal vs external methods.

Selection

Once you have decided to recruit for a position, the


applicants send in their applications and its time to select the
right candidate.
How do you do this? Students to brainstorm how they would
sort through the applications and decide who to interview.
What would they look for?
Students to write a list of key things they would identify in the
applications and how they would narrow it down.

If a business knows what their staffing needs are going to be,


then they can make decisions on how many people, and
which skills, they need to recruit.
