Final Production Pitch

Introduction
In this pitch we are going display our ideas of an opening title
sequence.
The plan of our opening is for there to be two scenarios occurring
in the whole opening, a primary scene and second scene both
presenting two stories.

Introduction Target audience

The target audience for a our thriller is mainly the ages ranging
from 15-50, so a wide age range excluding those under 15 and
over 50.
The film can be aimed at all genders, races and religion.

The concept
The concept of our thriller opening is a torture scene with only two
characters; a torturer and victim. In using these two characters
alongside effective editing and rapid cuts with effective use of
close-ups, we want the audience to feel as unsettled as the victim.
There will be rapid cuts and the input of flashbacks.
Our main concept has the purpose of creating correct atmosphere
and make an effective narrative that is supported by clever
editing.

Plot what happens?

We intend to show a torture scene at first, the victim completely
panicked and the torturer menacingly taunting the victim by scanning
over their tools.
There will be continuous flashbacks/forwards to answer questions on
both sides, of implied torture and as to why the victim is there being
tortured.
The title will be shown at the end of the sequence as the torturer
assembles a drill, and then the title is shown upon a black screen as
you hear the sound of the drill. This is to show what happens next.

Sub-genre? Narrative?
We intend to utilize the psychological sub-genre seeing
our aim is to unnerve and place the audience into a state
of discomfort.
We decided to use a psychological thriller because we
believe they create the most enigmas, we could make an
idea as complex as ours but use some clichs at the
same time.

Style
Our style was inspired by that of Se7en.
We dont wish to incorporate a full Se7en inspiration
since torture is not a theme in the film, so we researched
some torture scenes and picked up some typical items of
use.
A drill, from American Sniper for example, though it is
implied torture in our case.

Typography and
ident
For the typography we have decided to use the Blacklist font from Dafont.com.
This is inspired by the title from Taken.
We will use this at the end of the opening as we believe we can create more
enigmas and tension this way.
Our ident will be designed using both Photoshop and Dafont, which will be called
DANGER ZONE STUDIOS.

Shot List

We have assembled a shot list for the opening sequence, this

shot list consisting of 36 shots. These shots starting with the
main scene, this being the pre-torture scene, then the
middle of the shot list still includes the pre-torture scene but
there will be flashback scenes of how this victim got into the
situation of being tied to a chair. Towards the end of the shot
list there is clearly more progress in this torture preparation,
tools are seen being assembled and obviously finally the
movie title Trespasser appears.

Soundtrack
Option one is to have a soundtrack which creates as
much tension as the shots. A very distorted soundtrack
with low pitched instrumentals.

Option two being a Rock and Roll themed song to simply

make the scene entirely psychopathic.

Inspiration
We gained inspiration from Casino, for the use of Rock and Roll during a torture
scene.
Films like Outlander use the soft classical music, more like ambient sound that
creates soft atmosphere to show the coming before the storm during a torture
scene.
We also looked at films such as Django where no sound was used at all, it was
just what Django hears; the sound of the knife and the voice of the torturer.

Actor Auditions
To determine who the actors were going to be for our thriller opening we held
some actor auditions.

Role 1 - Victim
We decided that Ronan would play the part of the
person being tortured. This was because when we
auditioned him he created very good character with lots
of elements of characterisation
Ronan showed that he was able to create the sense of
being on-edge and very nervous.

Role 2 - Torturer
For the part of the torturer we decided that Jordan
should play this role. This was because he created a
very menacing character and he fit the role very well.
Because Jordan has this experience with drama, he will
be useful on set because he can help and guide Ronan if
he needs help with characterisation or body language to
make his character even more realistic.
