Date Sep. 8, 2015 Tours Worked She Supervisor initial t 2:00 (hes) Vv Activity about the basies of my internship with her and to take a tour [inet with Ms. Lake this morning to lal of the library, We talked about some of the things she would like be sure Fam exposed to, We alse discussed briefly her vision for the in-service project. We lined up several dates fir me to come in to work with her Sep. 10, 2015 9:15 12:15 (G hrs.) Ms. Lake provides the sixth grade students with « library orientation to familiarize them with the resources available in the library as well as the Layout of the space. She teams up with high school English teachers to have older students guide the sixth grade students through the scavenger hunt activity. also guided one group of'sixth graders through the tivity. It was very inlerestin, effective way to introduce students new to the middle school to all the wonderful resources, available in their library, Sep, 2015 8:00 11:00 (hrs) h grade library Today we continued the orientation scavenger hunts. They went well and were beneficial for both the sixth graders and the high school students who were their guides. 1. familiarized them with some library resources of which they were not even aware, like the makerspaces and the career section. | also shelved a few books towards the end of the time. Sep. 1 2015 5:00 — 2:30 (5.5 hrs) Ms, Lake worked in tandem today with a high school history teacher to lead students throu resource-linding activity, Students were assivned an ancient civilization to research. Ms. Lake demonstrated how to find print materials (both reference and nonreference) as well as materials found in the school’s databases. Students were required to create citations for their resources and begin to build a bibliography to use with their research paper. I worked with s reference section to help students find reference judents in the works that contained information on their given op Livo Class periods, | worked al creating a resource list for the tenth grade world . Following thes history curriculum based on the sections of the textbook the world history teacher uses. Today continued creating the resource list for the tenth grade history class. Ms, Lake is preparing to order more books fir the library and wanted to know if there wet : parts of the history euriculum, where the collection should be inereased, xr the special needs students today with an eye towards noting the academic areas in which they siruggle. My goal is to create a spreadsheet that allows Ms. Lake and 1 to know how to hest create an in-service project Twent through all of the IEPs that will really be of value to the SPED teachers. Today I supervised the Seminar period in the library which included making sure students who came to the library to work were signing in and out, [also helped several students find materials for which they were searching, Today was spent almost exelusively in collaborating with Ms. Lake on my in-service presentation, She laid out her goals for the ine service and gave me some background and vision for what the SPED teachers need to enable them te hetter help their special needs students. By the end of the day, { had mapped out an outline of the presentation and will begin tomorrow researching and pulting ideas together Today [ began working on researching various topics related to my in-service presentation. Oct. 6, 2015 | 9:00= 11:45; 1245 230 ash) qe Lake and [ are collaborating on what things emphasize in the presentation Today E worked on comparing hi-lo reading lists with the Aviano MHS colleetion to see what titles we have in house. Ms. Lake would like to add to. the titles to have a fuller, mot list in preparation for my presentation to the SPED teachers in my in vice ina couple of weeks. The hi-lo reading lists are especially important for helping special needs students find leisure reading materials that is of interest to them but is of an robust hi-lo reading appropriate reading level. Ms, Lake also asked me today to prepare math unit that ties in 10 the Lee Man eross-curricular study she is planning for the sixth grade, They take a field trip to see the lee Man in Bolzano. Since my background is in math education, she asked me to ereate a unit that woule tie in with that, | began researching that unit and coming up with some ideas. T completed the interactive math unit for the Lee Man unit the sixth graders will be doing, Ms. Lake sent it to the sixth grade math teacher to offer our serviees in the Information Center in helping the students complete it later this month. I spent the remainder of my time working on my in-service presentation. [made good progress but still have much work to be done. I will continue working on it tomorrow, though Twill not be able to coordinate with Ms. Lake on it much as she has classes and meetings scheduled most of the day. We have scheduled a run through of the presentation on Thursday. We will see what kinks need to be ironed out after that Tworked alimos. exclusively today on the ine servive presentation, Ms, Lake and J looked in more depth at the challenges and needs of Aviano’ MHS’s special needs student population. 1 continued preparing my presentation, Ms. Lake also asked me to pull up the DoDEA curriculum
