Ms. Lake provides the sixth grade students with «
library orientation to familiarize them with the
resources available in the library as well as the
Layout of the space. She teams up with high school
English teachers to have older students guide the
sixth grade students through the scavenger hunt
activity. also guided one group of'sixth graders
through the
tivity. It was very inlerestin,
effective way to introduce students new to the
middle school to all the wonderful resources,
available in their library,

Ms, Lake worked in tandem today with a high
school history teacher to lead students throu
resource-linding activity, Students were assivned
an ancient civilization to research. Ms. Lakedemonstrated how to find print materials (both
reference and nonreference) as well as materials
found in the school’s databases. Students were
required to create citations for their resources and
begin to build a bibliography to use with their
research paper. I worked with s
reference section to help students find reference
judents in the
works that contained information on their given
op Livo Class periods, | worked
al creating a resource list for the tenth grade world
. Following thes
history curriculum based on the sections of the
textbook the world history teacher uses.
Today continued creating the resource list for the
tenth grade history class. Ms, Lake is preparing to
order more books fir the library and wanted to
know if there wet
: parts of the history euriculum,
where the collection should be inereased,
xr the special needs
students today with an eye towards noting the
academic areas in which they siruggle. My goal is
to create a spreadsheet that allows Ms. Lake and 1
to know how to hest create an in-service project
Twent through all of the IEPs
that will really be of value to the SPED teachers.
Today I supervised the Seminar period in the
library which included making sure students who
came to the library to work were signing in and
out, [also helped several students find materials
for which they were searching,
Today was spent almost exelusively in
collaborating with Ms. Lake on my in-service
presentation, She laid out her goals for the ine
service and gave me some background and vision
for what the SPED teachers need to enable them te
hetter help their special needs students. By the end
of the day, { had mapped out an outline of the
presentation and will begin tomorrow researching
and pulting ideas together
Today [ began working on researching various
topics related to my in-service presentation. Ms,irs)

Today E worked on comparing hi-lo reading lists
with the Aviano MHS colleetion to see what titles
we have in house. Ms. Lake would like to add to.
the titles to have a fuller, mot
list in preparation for my presentation to the SPED
teachers in my in vice ina couple of weeks.
The hi-lo reading lists are especially important for
helping special needs students find leisure reading
materials that is of interest to them but is of an
robust hi-lo reading
appropriate reading level. Ms, Lake also asked me
today to prepare math unit that ties in 10 the Lee
Man eross-curricular study she is planning for the
sixth grade, They take a field trip to see the lee
Man in Bolzano. Since my background is in math
education, she asked me to ereate a unit that woule
tie in with that, | began researching that unit and
coming up with some ideas.
T completed the interactive math unit for the Lee
Man unit the sixth graders will be doing, Ms. Lake
sent it to the sixth grade math teacher to offer our
serviees in the Information Center in helping the
students complete it later this month. I spent the
remainder of my time working on my in-service
presentation. [made good progress but still have
much work to be done. I will continue working on
it tomorrow, though Twill not be able to
coordinate with Ms. Lake on it much as she has
classes and meetings scheduled most of the day.
We have scheduled a run through of the
presentation on Thursday. We will see what kinks
need to be ironed out after that
Tworked alimos. exclusively today on the ine
servive presentation, Ms, Lake and J looked in
more depth at the challenges and needs of Aviano’
MHS’s special needs student population. 1
continued preparing my presentation, Ms. Lake
also asked me to pull up the DoDEA curriculum
