Finch Robots

Basic coding integrated with

STEAM subject areas.
Mathematics
High School Mathematics: Standard 1: Problem Solving
Identify the problem from a described situation, determine the
necessary data and apply appropriate problem-solving strategies.

Coding the Finch requires problem solving at the minute

level concerning desired movements.

Social Studies
High School Social Studies: Content Standard 1: The student will cite textual and
visual evidence including maps and other geographic representations, tools and
technologies to acquire, research, process, and solve problems from a spatial
perspective

Drawing tools can be attached to the Finch, giving it

the ability to draw images given the correct coding.

Science

HS-LS4-5 Biological Unity and Diversity

Students who demonstrate understanding can: Synthesize, communicate, and evaluate
the information that describes how changes in environmental conditions can affect the
distribution of traits in a population causing: 1) increases in the number of individuals of
some species, 2) the emergence of new species over time, and 3) the extinction of other
species.

Using obstacles, the effect of habitat shrinkage can be mimicked

for the Finch to navigate.

Language Arts

High School Language Arts, Oral Language/Listening and Speaking: Standard 3:

Group Interaction - The student will use effective communication strategies in pairs
and small group context.

Communicating with peers and working towards the same goal

is a great exercise to be practiced with the Finch.

Music
High School General Music: Standard 4.1: Music Appreciation: Creating The
student understands and uses musical tools, including active listening to create and
evaluate original works.
Produce short rhythmic and melodic improvisations.

The Finch is able to play simple sounds, which can be

combined to integrate melodies into the programmed
operations.
