6th Grade Parents and Guardians,

My name is Mrs. Rubinstein and I am the technology teacher at Lawrence Intermediate
School. Your students will come to the lab every other day this marking period as a
special. I have many great things planned this year to help the students learn and grow
in the area of technology.
In the computer lab, we will be working with a wide variety of programs and technology
tools. Our goal is to have your student become as comfortable as possible with using
technology while remaining safe.
Your students will be using applications such as Type to Learn for keyboarding
instruction/practice, of course, logging into Google Drive to produce and store their
work.
The students are excited about the 3D printer that we have in the lab. They will learn all
about 3D printing and the impact on society, as well as how to design using a website
called Tinkercad and will create and print a 3D item to take home. We will be
tweeting out our progress in the lab as class, so please follow us on Twitter at
LIS_TechLabTweeters.
In addition to working within 3D modeling programs and websites, the students will be
writing stories and creating stop action animation movies using Lego figures and
bricks, digital cameras and Moviemaker software.
Lastly, if you are actively working in an S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering
and/or Math) based career and would like to share what you do with our class, please let
me know. We would love to Skype with you!
If you have questions or concerns about our technology lab, please feel free to call or
contact me at the email address below.
Sincerely,
Karen Rubinstein
