Flying wing concept

(Vtol technolgies)

Different configurations

Contd.

Advanced flying-wing aerofoil, able to provide

high lift at low speeds, whilst providing low
drag at high speed.
Coupled with four ducted-fan rotors, having
shallow degree of rotation, enabling quick
transformation, to and from the hover mode.
Flapperons also included , serving dual
purpose of increased aerofoil based lift at low
speeds and providing aileron and elevator
control.

Contd.

Using the same concept at a larger scale may

result in a more efficient hybrid vehicle which
incorporates fixed wing as well as hover
capabilities.
Design maximizes lift while eliminating
redundant aircraft features. (that add weight,
overcomplicate flight control, increase drag
and reduce endurance.)

Pros
Higher Payload Capacity for its size.
Greater endurance with equivalent power
source.
Faster cruise speeds and greater stability,
agility, hovering ability and a smaller
footprint.
No control surface actuators required for Fixed
wings.

Contd.
Resistance to wind gusts.
Fast stall recovery.
Shallow gliding angle offers greater chance of
fixing the issue in the air or bringing the craft
to ground safely in event of total power loss.
Greater versatility with Thrust vectoring.

Situational Cons/Challenges
Not a straight forward transformation to a
larger scale
Usage as an air taxi requiring specific
fuselage shape and size may compromise
higher lift generation.
Less robust as an air taxi.
Higher levels of control requirement making
autonomous control a necessity.
