Dear Barbara:
Bryanna Barcelo has asked that I submit a letter of recommendation to you on her behalf. As her Clinical
Professor, I have had the unique position of working with her during her last semester in nursing at The
University of Arizona College of Nursing.
I supervised Bryanna during the leadership/management course and during her Clinical Preceptorship at
Banner -University of Arizona Medical Center, Tucson, University Campus, which is a level I Trauma
Center and Magnet hospital. Bryanna worked on 5E, the intermediate care abdominal transplant/ surgical
oncology unit. This 14 bed unit specializes in the care of high acute abdominal transplant and surgical
oncology patients with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 patients. Ms. Barcelo completed 186 hours in the
Preceptorship experience working three - 12 hour shifts a week on the day shift with one RN Preceptor.
As a senior nursing student, she demonstrated outstanding performance in the basic nursing roles during
this period. By the end of the preceptorship Bryanna was able to assume a full patient load for the unit
which is three highly acute patients. The preceptorship experience included; providing direct patient care,
nursing assessments, admissions, transfers, discharges, patient/family teaching, medication
administration, and basic team leader responsibilities.
Ms. Barcelo developed a positive rapport with her healthcare team and demonstrated sound leadership
abilities. Although her supervision and delegation skills are at the entry level, she has excellent
interpersonal skills with patients and staff, and helped to create a positive work environment.
Ms. Barcelo demonstrated strong organization, prioritization and communication skills. She is
professional, self-directed, makes sound decisions, has exceptional interpersonal skills, and interacts well
with patients, family and other health care providers. I highly recommend Bryanna Barcelo for a new
graduate RN position.
Sincerely,

Roxanne A. Moutafis MS, RN, BC
