The
is an important segment of the economy in any country

as it links many industries and services. The Automotive Component Manufacturers

Association of India (ACMA) is the nodal agency for the Indian Auto Component Industry,

which includes Siddeshwar Industries Pvt. Ltd. The Indian auto component industry is one of

India's sunrise industries with tremendous growth prospects. India is now a supplier of a

range of high-value and critical automobile components to global auto makers such as

General Motors, Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen, amongst others. Some leading manufacturers

of auto components in India include Motor Industries Company of India, Bharat Forge,

Sundaram Fasteners, Wheels India, Amtek Auto, Motherson Sumi, Rico Auto and Subros.

There are presently 29 Vehicles Manufacturers (OEMs) in India located at Gurgaon, Pune

and Chennai who together manufactured more than 5.2 million vehicles during 2005-06.

The regional base of auto component manufacturers is mostly concentrated in the

West, North and South of India. This regional concentration of auto component

manufacturers has been dictated by the emergence of automobile manufacturers in these

regions. The set up of Tata Motors, Bajaj, Mahindra & Mahindra and TVS in the 1950s and

1960s laid the foundation for auto component manufacturers in the West and South, whilst

the entry of Maruti during the 1980s created the base in the North.

The ‘of the auto component industry was estimated at over • in

2007-08, a compounded increase of

) * ³Total Customer Delight´. They firmly believe that each & every product that

they manufacture not only meet all Quality Standards., National & International, but meet

specific needs of each & every customer. The precision & care that goes in the manufacture

of products should contribute enormously to the performance & durability of customer

product. They believe that they can contribute significantly to customer profitability; they

also understand that the end user must benefit from the rapid advances in technology

$ * ³Excellence in our line of business, Promotes growth in yours.´

© * At Siddheshwar they believe that an ISO certification is only the

beginning of a continuous process called quality. A well built QCPC (Quality Control,

process control), a well- established standard room, calibration and traceability as per ISO

(International Organization for Standardization) norms, monitoring of the Process Capability

Index (PCI) and periodical quality audits ensure consistency in quality. However, their

ultimate goal is the zero defect product with a target of less than 100 ppb (Parts Per Billion):

a milestone that is fast approaching.

The project is prepared to fulfil various objectives. The objective to prepare this project

is:

I.‘ To understand the working of the auto-component industry.

II.‘ To understand how the company works in real sense.

III.‘ To understand the different ways by which the different parts of an auto-component is

made.

IV.‘ To realize the importance and the role played by the company in the economy.

V.‘ To understand the importance of quality maintenance.

a‘The gear manufacturing process is a complex step right

from selecting the right material to finally doing the finishing process for getting an optimum

quality gear. Gear blanks in the beginning are first roughed out and completely stress relieved

this is done to minimise the distortion that have taken place after carburising. The blanks

subsequently then undergoes the finishing process. Then the gear cutting process takes place

giving allowance on the tooth flank for grinding. Then subsequently grinding and other steps

take place. Following are the steps in the gear manufacturing processes:

During our visit to Siddheshwar Industries Pvt. Ltd and while preparing this report, I

observed various things. They are:

1.‘ Siddheshwar Industries Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1994.

2.‘ They specially deal in Forging, machining, & metallurgy.

3.‘ Numbers of employees working in the firm are 962 & the numbers of

components being processed in the premises are 125.

4.‘ It is an ISO 9001-2000 company.

5.‘ The machines used at the process level are completely through ERP system.

6.‘ Machines are bought from India, Japan & France.

7.‘ Maximisation of profit through reuse of metal. Waste metal is reused thus,

there is cost efficiency.

8.‘ The present production of two forging plants is 800 ton p.m.

9.‘ Hi-tech machines for precise machining like CNC turning machines, VMCs

have a capacity of 20,000 parts per day which are delivered to 2-wheeler

manufacturers in & around Pune.

10.‘They have proper technology, infrastructure, resources & experts team to

reach their goal.

11.‘Their major client includes one of India's giants in the two & three wheeler

field - M/s Bajaj Auto Ltd.

—c
   ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘‘‘ ‘

After the visit and while preparing this report I think there are certain things that the

company should take care of.

1.‘ The place should be maintained & cleaned daily.

2.‘ Spittoons shall be installed at certain suitable points.

3.‘ There must be proper space between machines & equipments so that the

workers are protected from congestion. So, proper plant layout is to be

done.

4.‘ The safety marks should be repainted for safety of workers.

5.‘ Some of the links & images under site are not accessible. Due to this it

becomes difficult to explore the company¶s website.

6.‘ The building including the canteen should be repainted.
