Dragonauta is a known name in the metal scene but for me
this is the first time to having the chance to listen to any of their
works. They come from South America and if Im not mistaken from
Argentina. They play a form of old school doom metal, enriched with
elements of dark progressive rock like the one Italians perfected.
The album is dominated by a strong ritualistic aura that
enhances the dark nature of the songs. I cant really pick out a song
as all of them are on the same level and the one complements the
other. For me however two songs made me a lasting impression, the
title track, half title track actually, Cruz Invertida/Altar Penumbra
that sometimes feels like it was written by Reverend Bizzare and
Poseidons Blood one of the darkest prog rock songs I ever heard.
One of the most impressive things this band does is that without
sacrificing their primitiveness they manage to create a very melodic
album, something that I attribute to the absence of keys and their
substitution by long melodic guitar solos.
Concluding I think that it is one a must for anyone who likes
the sound of the bands from Black Widow records. Also I cant help
saying something for the artwork as I cant stop thinking that this is
how a Satanist version of Playboy should be.
