Dear Dr. Justin Thurman
In this 1101 English class, I have learned a tremendous amount about writing. I
have put a lot of work and time into this class. I came into this semester with a hunger to
become better at writing. I am proud to say that I feel that the task was accomplished. I
have written multiple papers, and through this journey I have picked up on some of the
common mistakes that I make on a regular basis. To add to that, the revisions that you
provide after every paper has provided a great learning tool. This portfolio is to display
the progress I have made during this time of instruction.
There are countless things you went over during the duration of this semester. The
six-step oration is something that will stick with me forever. Organizing my paper in this
manner has helped me in a big way. Learning how to build a template for my papers has
helped set a foundation for better writing. I am able to build an introduction that is
actually relevant to the central claim. The six-step oration has actually made my papers
more interesting and not just words piled on top of each other. Another tool that has
helped me in a big way is the action of reading papers out loud so that I am able to hear
my mistakes. With just these two tools alone, I feel my writing has grown.

This class was more than I could have hoped for. My writing has matured and is
heading in the right direction. It was an awesome introduction into college and preparing
me to be a compassionate human being. I feel like I have grown as a human being. I am
looking forward to continuing that growth in your class next semester. Thank you for the
guidance you have provided in the early stages of my college experience.

Sincerely,

Elijah Adedoyin
