What is Hydroponics?

110329mc
Hydroponics is the name of a simple irrigation method that allows you to grow
plants without soil. Minerals (fertilizers) are dissolved in water and fed to plant
roots. Hydroponics is very clean and many times more productive than
conventional soil methods. Fewer soil borne pests...no weeds...easy on your
back, easier to control variables. You know exactly what is in your water.
There are two types of hydroponics systems... an Open System where fertilizers
are run through plant roots into the soil, and a Closed System where fertilizers
are recirculated in a tank. We prefer recirculation as the open systems are being
restricted and forbidden because of the enormous waste and impact on the
environment plus, they are non sustainable.
What are the most profitable crops to grow?
Traditionally, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers were the hot crops, easiest to
market. They are being grown in Canada, Mexico, US, Venezuela and even
flown in from Holland. They are easy to ship and usually dont taste that great.
Currently the hot crop is herbs... specifically Basil, living Basil, harvested with the
roots on. Herbs are easily damaged during shipping. Basil is easy to grow, has
long shelf life and fetches around $2.49/bunch in the marketplace. Its difficult for
anyone outside of the area to compete with you.
Can I supplement my income by growing Basil, lettuce and herbs where I
live? ...or make a living with it?
Yes! Let us know how much you would like to make and we can help configure a
system to produce it. We walk you through all the steps, greenhouse if you need
it, costs, how to determine your market, income you can expect and most
importantly... we make sure you can produce quality and consistency in a
marketplace and hold a competitive advantage with our crop turn technology
(CTT) that we teach you. It is not unusual to breakeven in the first year for
smaller systems and 2 years for larger systems.
Who could help me assess that growing produce hydroponically would
work for me?

American Hydroponics has been around since 1984. We have systems all over
the US and the world, Kuwait, Mexico, Hondouras, Israel, Philippines. Check out
ourweb site for pictures of systems, growers testimonies, and see why
hydroponic farming is more and more in demand as small growers are
marginalized and environmental constraints are increased making it harder for
farmers to make a decent living.
