Dear Principal:
This letter is to accompany my resume. As a result, I am hoping to talk with you in
person about the opportunity of teaching at your school.
I am looking for a position teaching chemistry. I graduated from ASU with a B.S. in
Biochemistry and a Secondary Ed. Teaching Certificate (GPA 3.5). I am highly
qualified in the Chemistry content area and have passed the NES chemistry and
secondary education tests.
My desire to become a teacher developed as I coached a swim team. Motivating
kids by helping them to set goals and accomplish them was a highlight of my time
coaching. I found that swimmers learned better if they knew why we were doing
something so I explained technique in a scientific way to help them understand why
it would make them faster. Through this job I performed many tasks that I imagine a
teacher would also do: I interacted with swimmers building healthy relationships,
wrote daily workout plans to achieve an ultimate goal, and interacted with parents
and other coaches. Although this job was not in the specific field of education I feel
that it equipped me to be ready to enter the classroom.
On the other hand, my love for chemistry goes back to when I was in high school. In
high school I struggled through my first chemistry class but I took on the challenge.
Through this process of struggling and eventually improving, I developed amazement
for how the world works. My goal for teaching is for students to develop this same
passion, feeling successful and curious about the world around them as they explore
these topics through technology and real life experiences.
I hope that together we an make this goal a reality.
Thanks,
Alisha Maxwell
