islands and names them the Philippines

Starting in 1896 natives create an armed
campaign for independence from the
Spanish rule.

Japan Seizes the

1941 begins the rule of Japan

US Takes over the


islands
1944 marks yet another power turnover
from Japan to the US

Independence
In 1946 the Philippine islands are given full
independence and renamed to the Republic
of the Philippines

Ferdinand for President


1965, Ferdinand Marcos is named the
president of the Philippines
