questions for inquiry:
- What are some traditions, celebrations, stories and practices in the
communities that connect the people to the past and to each other (e.g.
languages spoken, traditions, customs)? (CC, GC, TCC)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
Identify Peruvian festivals, traditions, official languages, beliefs, etc.

Textbooks Connecting with the world (1 per student)


Trivia Questions (based on the readings 2 questions per table)
White board
White board markers
PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Have trivia questions already made up


Have rules set in place in order to keep trivia game going
- Each team gets 1 warning for talking after that points will be taken
away
- Each team must talk about it and 1 person can give answer for the
team answers that have been shouted wont be considered

- If students do not know the answer another table may steal the
question and earn the points.

PROCEDURE
Introduction
Tell students we are going to be learning about Peru today
by reading in the textbook and playing a trivia game after if
we can get through the readings.
Body

Read through pages 28-31 in the


textbook Connecting with the world
Ask for volunteers to read the first
paragraph of each page. Ask for other
volunteers once students have finished
reading. If activity is taking too long read
the rest of text to the class.

When finished the reading tell students


we will be playing a trivia game to review
what we have just read. Explain the rules
- Each table group will be asked 2
questions each. For each correct answer
each group will be awarded 10 points.
- ONE person will answer for the group.
Group members must talk quietly about
what they think the correct answer is.
Talk quietly because if your answer is
incorrect other group may steal your
points. A team may steal when they are
seated quietly and one person from that
group has their hand up.
- Each group will get 1 warning for talking
if the group is told more than once to
stop talking 5 points will be taken away
- Students may use their workbook ONCE
as a lifeline if the do not know the answer
to the question.
- IF there is a tie bonus points may be
awarded to the table group that remained

quiet and respectful the entire time.

poncho (Need at least 2/3 for points)

Pachamanca (meat and corn dish cooked in
ground)

supper, and watch fireworks (Need 2/3 to get

QUESTION: In the textbook we read a folktale
about a llama who saves the people. How did
the llama save the people?
ANSWER: The llama told his master that a great
floor was coming and unless everyone climbed
to the top of the mountain (Willka Qutu) they
would drown.
Count up all the points to see what table group
won. If there is a tie bonus points may be
awarded to the team who remained quiet
throughout the activity.

For modification/differentiation group collaboration will be allowed. This allows for
students who do not understand the question to clarify with their group members.
