Sub- Groups/Students Information

Describe this
subgroup/student
using information
from Table 1.1
Non- Athletes

SUBGROUP
or
FOCUS
STUDENT

Why was this

subgroup/student
selected?
In this high school, the
student body is
divided into those two
different groups. There
are students who are
athletes and those that
are not. It seemed to
be a normal divide
that was only natural
to pick up on.

What was learned about this subgroup/student?

Intellectual
Based on scores of previous assignments, these students, as a whole, are about
average. There is an extremely bright student who is chronically sick, which
causes her to miss several classes at a time. There is another student who is
trying to raise her grade since the beginning of the year did not start out smooth.
Social
These students are all friends in my class, at the very least. Three of the four
girls in this group clump together in the back of the class for seating. They tend
to talk in the back corner together, but they listen when they are supposed to.
There is one student who is homebound but she sits with the athletes, more often
than not.
Personal
This group of students seems to come from diverse backgrounds. They bring
different views to the various things that will be discussed in class.

Intellectual
This groups seems to be more intellectually driven. At Lamar, if you are an
athlete, academics are a key factor in your eligibility to be a part of a sport. They
have something to lose if they do not keep their grades up.
Social
These students are the popular students in the school. Their social lives are an
important part of their lives. Social is not only outside of school, but a majority
of these students are multiple sport athletes.
Personal
This group likes to talk to each other. There are three specific students that sit
together and talk the entire class. They do their work, and do it well, without
disrupting others. Some of their experiences differ, but as a whole, they have
good home lives and parents who are involved in their lives.
