Polska?
‘Throughout the research that I have done recently on my family history, I have
determined that three fourths of my family has unknown origins but after talking to my
grandfather I found there is at least some history of immigration. After finding a copy of the
0 ae on Familysearch.org, | discovered that my grandfather's mother was born in
\V Poland. After further research, I found on multiple different websites including Mooseroots.com
that my great-grandmother in fact was born in Michigan and both of her parents were born in
Poland, Although there was an error in the 1940 Census, I know that many of my family
members came from Poland.
‘The bolish flag is a fairly simple flag by design but is very recognizable with the flag
being divided into two equal horizontal halves with white on the top and red on the bottom.
According to WordFlags 01.com the current Polish flag that is used today was adopted in 1831
after Poland gained their independence from Russia and it has flown uninterrupted since except
during the Second World War when Poland was occupied by German and the Nazi flag was
HY.
‘The national anthem of Poland is “Mazurek Dabrowskiego” once translated to English
flown/ “ n.gchonal Flag of t
roughly mean “Poland is not yet lost.” This adaptation of the national anthem was adopted inJessick 2
1926 but was actually written in 1795 by J6zef Wybicki who was in Italy following Poland
forces to fight in the Napoleonic wars (Trochimezyk).
Becoming a Polish citizen is much easier if one wants to become a United States citizen.
‘According to migrant.info.pl which is Poland’s official website for information about migrating
there are just a few necessary tasks to become a Polish citizen. To gain citizenship in Poland, one
must only apply for citizenship by filling out a form and paying a small fee. Also anyone can be
recognized as a Polish citizen by living in Poland for at least three years and having a current
reliable job or source of income.
Finding out details about my family’s heritage has given me an urge to research and learn
‘more about my family history. After finding out that I am of Polish decent it has given me a
connection to a different country and culture. Although I still do not know my entire family
history, finding this initial information about my family’s immigration history has fueled my
search for new information.Jessick 3
