Polska?
‘Throughout the research that I have done recently on my family history, I have
determined that three fourths of my family has unknown origins but after talking to my
grandfather I found there is at least some history of immigration. After finding a copy of the
1940 Census on Familysearch.org, | discovered that my grandfather's mother was born in
Poland (“Nellie R. nae fier further research, I found on multiple different websites
including Mooseroots.com that my great-grandmother ift fact was born in Michigan and both of
her parents were bor in Poland (“Nellie R. Jessi¢& - 1930 Census”), Although there was an
error in the 1940 Census, I know that many of my family members came from Poland.
The Polish flag is a fairly simple flag by design but is very recognizable with the flag
being divided into two equal horizontal halves with white on the top and red on the bottom.
According to WordFlags101.com the current Polish flag that is used today was adopted in 1831
after Poland gained their independence from Russia and it has flown uninterrupted since except
during the Second World Wafwhen Poland was occupied by German and the Nazi flag was
flown (“National Flag of Poland”).
The national anthem of Poland is “Mazurek Dabrowskiego” once translated to English
roughly mean “Poland is not yet lost.” This adaptation of the national anthem was adopted inJessick 2

Finding out details about my family’s heritage has given me an urge to research and leam
‘more about my family history. After finding out that I am of Polish decent it has given me a
connection to a different country and culture. Although I still do not know my entire family
history, finding this
al information about my family’s immigration history has fueled my
search for new information.Jessick 3
