INTRODUCTION
The UGC of India is a statutory
body set up by the Indian union Government in
1956 that disburses funds to recognized
universities/colleges.
UGC is charged with co-ordination,
determination and maintenance of standards of
higher education.

OBJECTIVES OF
UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION

Understand the significance of


education in general, and higher
education in particular, in the global
and context.

Acquire and improve basic skills of


teaching at the college/ university levels
to achieve the goals of higher
education.
Promote computer literacy as well as
internet knowledge.

Understand the linkage between


education and economic and socio economic and cultural development
with particular reference to Indian
policy where democracy, secularism
and social equity are the basic
tenants of society.

Keep abreast of the latest development


in their specific subjects.

Utilize opportunity for development of


personality , initiative and creativity.

Understand the organization and


management of colleges/ university
and to pursue the role of teachers in
the total system.

CONCLUSION
The UGC was formally established
for the co-ordination, determination and
maintenance of standards of university
education in India.
