Each morning students come into class with a short sentence on the board. This sentence
will contain grammatical errors that the students will need to correct. Student assessment
will come with their responses on what the grammatical errors are.
Sentence for October 29, 2015
John said dont spill youre drink on the carpet
Corrected:
John said, Dont spill your drink on the carpet!
Students responses:
Put a comma after said.
Change youre to your, it shows possession.
Put an exclamation point after carpet.
You need quotation marks around Dont and the exclamation point.
Capitalize Dont.
If a student gives an incorrect correction, give them hints to a right correction.
When a student gives a correct correction, have them explain to you why the correction is
needed to assure that the students are understanding their corrections.
