In 1848 the state of California officially
became apart of the United States of
America
That same year, on January 24th, 1848 gold
was found in California

Discovery of Gold
On January 24th, 1848 James W. Marshall
discovered gold in Coloma, California

Gold Rush
At first, in 1848 mainly pioneers
from other areas of California came
to find gold
But word quickly traveled about the
possibility of striking it rich and
finding gold in California
By 1849, 90,000 people, some from
other areas of the USA, some from
other areas of the world, came to
California to find some gold
By 1855, over 300,000 pioneers
settled in California looking to find
some gold for themselves
