Assessment Tasks:
Aboriginal brush stroke painting (Acrylic paint on black card) Land
Students view and discuss the works of Gloria Petyarre and other Aboriginal bush medicine leaves
painters. They explore the sense of movement in the paintings and consider the use of art elements
that have been employed in order to achieve this.
Students plan for and complete their own work inspired by the bush medicine leaves painters. They
use acrylic paint of black card with fine brushes. Students attempt to apply even and intentional
brushstrokes and follow movement lines to give a sense of movement to their work.

Assessment Tasks:
Chinese Pottery (Ceramics)
- Students review the Elements and Principals of Art and practice applying these in
their analysis of others art and creation of their own
- Students view and discuss pottery form the Ming Dynasty. They design their own
bowl or vase inspired by the Ming style. Students gain understanding of the
equipment and processes of working with clay as they form, dry, fire, paint, glaze
and re-fire their work.
- Students complete a test about the history of the Ming Dynasty, their art and the
techniques required.

Watercolour Painting Sky
Students learn the techniques required for the medium of watercolour paint. They practice using wet
and dry techniques as well as blending colours on the page. Students explore the concept of
silhouettes against a sky; they research, develop and practice their concept before completing a
watercolour painting of the sky scene and using ink to add a silhouette on top of the watercolour.

Renaissance Art:
Exploring and responding: Students research the historical influences behind Renaissance Art, they also apply
their knowledge of the elements and principals of art to portraits paintings from the Renaissance time; they
recognise common uses of colour, value, gradation, line, theme and more to understand the typical composition
of the art movement.

Creating and making: Students design and create their own portrait, applying similar elements and principals as
the renaissance painters. They consider the use of background, clothing and prop to enhance the meaning and
representation of the person in the portrait. They learn to mix complex colours and apply even and effective
brushstrokes.

Fabric Art
Exploring and responding: Students learn about the importance of safe work practices, they complete a risk
assessment to inform the way they work with sharp tools and equipment
Creating and making: Students learn how to cut, pin and hand stitch two pieces of fabric to create a Christmas
tree ornament. They apply an embellishment technique according to their skill and comfort level, this may include
embroidery, beading, applique or fabric marking.
