Portfolio Project 8 Summary of History Events
November 8, 2015

The events of the Brown vs. the Board of Education case in 1954, are related to the events in
1964 The Civil Rights Act, both of these symbolic events mark a time in history where children
and people of any gender, race or ethnicity began to be treated equally. These events are the
beginning of our timeline in history, where the government began to take notice in the school
system and their influence in it. The events to follow are all to protect the innocence and
education of every child and student beginning with: Title 1 the Elementary and Secondary
Education Act, the Bilingual Education Act, Title IX, the Equal Opportunities Act, the Education
for All Handicapped Children Act, and the No Child Left Behind Act, all were created to give
every student a chance no matter who they are or what their condition may be. In 1983, a Nation
at Risk helped create the No Child Left Behind Act and helped people realize once again the
importance of a good education, and that some children may struggle and need more attention.
Our school system in America would not be what it is today without these historic events.
Everything in this world is constantly growing and evolving, I think we can always be better in
everything we do especially for the sake of our young people.
