DIY: sketchy pleat clutch

Sim ple DIY today

Draw n w ith fabric m arkers, cut from a curv ed pattern, and constructed w ith a single pleat for a handy sized
zipper clutch. Suitable for sunglasses and a few other spare parts.
Finished Dim ensions: 5.5 inches tall x 9 inches w ide
Materials:
Cray ola Fabric Markers from the May Whim sey box
7 zipper
plain fabric m easuring 1 5 x 1 2 for exterior (cut to 7 .5 x 1 2 wide)
lining fabric m easuring 1 5 x 1 2 (cut to 7 .5 x 1 2 w ide)
optional: 2 4 bias corded trim /piping
usual suspects: pins, thread, needle, w ater soluble pen
This Com plim entary Pattern
Preparat ion:
Using fabric m arkers by Cray ola begin doodling y our pattern on tw o plain fabric panels m easuring 7 .5 tall x 1 2
w ide. Heat set according to m anufacturers instructions.
Const ruct ion:
Note: Seam allow ances are approxim ately 3 /8.
1 . Cut m ain fabric to Pattern Piece 1 . Cut lining fabric to Pattern Piece 2 .
2 . Transfer and m ark pleat points (on pattern) on the m ain (outer) fabric.
3 . Fold both outer points in toward center. Finger press and sew the pleat flat (1 /4 seam allow ance).

4. (OPTIONAL) If using piping, attach piping to the curv ed edge of one piece of m ain fabric.

5. Place the m ain fabric face dow n and align one edge of the zipper to it (zipper head should be lay ing face
dow n). Pin in place and sew w ith a zipper foot.

6. Place lining fabric print side down on top of the m ain fabric (right side up) and attached zipper. The zipper
should be lay ing flat against the m ain fabric as it w as w hen sewn. Sew the lining to the zipper and m ain
fabric. Press lining and m ain fabric aw ay from zipper.

7 . Repeat w ith other panels.

8. Place the m ain outer fabric halv es right sides together , pushing the zipper tail aw ay from the m ain fabric,
sew these tw o panels with a half inch seam allowance.

9. Open zipper halfw ay and repeat the process w ith the lining. This tim e leav e a 3 -4 hole to turn the bag
right side out.

1 0. Turn the bag right side out through the hole and flatten the piece, pushing out the curv ed edges of the
lining and m ain fabrics. Pinch the hole shut and sew closed.

Stuff lining inside the bag. Youre done.
