MISS GERKENS 2 GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS CLASS- SAMPLE
GRADING PRACTICIES FOR NINE- WEEK GRADING PERIOD
Before the nebulous grades were added, Katies grades reflected to be
what would be equivalent to an 86% after receiving 558 points out of
645. When the other grades were factoring in, Katies grade went up
from an 86% to a 90% after receiving 700 points out of 775. These
nebulous grades do not fully reflect the knowledge Katie has learned in
my class. The extra points are essentially easy grades that are there
to ensure she pay attention in class and follow directions.
The first score is a true reflection of Katies knowledge because the
score was based off assessment tasks rather than things like good
behavior. The first scores show Katie is only a B student, rather
than the A student reflected in the second score. The nebulous
grades have nothing to do with Katies learning, but rather extra points
that would allow her to bring her grade up for areas where she is
struggling.
