Why participate in the
Science and Engineering
Expo?
The Science and Engineering Expo is
a great way for students to learn
through communication, both oral
and written, teamworkand design.
The Science and Engineering Expo
provides students with an
opportunity to explore "real-world"
science and engineering discovery
through actual hands-on experiences.
Middle School students in grades 6,7,
and 8 as well as High School students
have an opportunity to participate in
the State Science and Engineering
Fair. This is great exposure for
students
High School Students can put this
experience on a college application
or resume. This isa great way to
stand-out to colleges and
universities.
Students can take something they are
currently working on in class,
develop it, and use it as an
experiment or design at the Expo.
What will it involve?
Students will engage in
researching and selecting a
topic/solve a real world problem.
Students will design an
experiment or prototype.
Students will draw conclusions
from their experiment or test
their prototype and redesign.
Students are required to keep a
science/engineering journal to
track their process.
Students must create a display
board to present their findings.
HAVE FUN! Learn a lot!
Help Sessions
Available
‘Students can use Seminar time
at the Middle School and
Enrichment time at the High
School.
Community members, scientists
and engineers will be available
as mentors for students.
Those will be some support
sessions held after school.
Students’ teachers will provide
support as they go through the
process oftheir experiment or
design.

From what areas of
science can students
Select their project?
The important part of selecting a
topic is finding one that interests
the student(s). Students will spend
a lot of time with this topic-
performing experiments, collecting
data, writing in their journals and
creating an attractive display.
Students should find something
that interests them.
Topics can come from the following
science and engineering disciplines:
Earth Science
Life Science
Physical Science
Arts and Music
Sports and Health
‘Human Behavior
Building a prototype to solve a
