Northern Ireland Case Study

1. The historical origins of Northern Ireland start in the 1960s when

many small scale battles, guerilla warfare, riots in the streets, all broke
out and killed over 3,000 civilians and severely wounding 50,000.
2. Domestic factors added heat to the conflict, as religious leaders from
both sides used their religions as symbols for war and to influence its
people to march and fight on.
3. International and religious factors played a crucial role in the
conflicts of Northern Ireland, in the way that they tried to stop it.
Religious leaders from everywhere spoke out and tried to redeem
Irelands human rights, they tried to bring peace to the mess that had
been made.
4. Socioeconomic factors stoked the conflict by creating small-scale
conflicts between working class neighborhoods. Many people died in
riots and shooting in the streets. This added more conflict in the
situation. It also created segregation of religion between the people.
5. Many of the factors were influenced by religion, so what the people
had faith in drove them to act out and create conflict in the situation,
with outcomes usually ending in death of civilians.
