RADIO CHANNEL

The radio station our documentary will be featuring on will be

heart FM, Heart FM features a mix of local and networked
programming. It began broadcasting on the 6 th of September
1994 and its original format of "soft adult contemporary" music
included artists such as Lionel Richie, Simply Red and Tina
Turner. The majority of the radio stations programming is
broadcasted live from Heart's network studios in Leicester
Square, London. A few of the current presenters on Heart FM
include Mark Wright, Jason Donavan and Emma Bunton. All
together there are 21 heart stations which broadcast local news
each day, the updates air hourly from 6am to 7pm on
weekdays and from 6am to 12pm at weekends.
The Heart sound has become the most popular in commercial
radio and now extends to 33 stations across the UK, reaching
more than 7.4 million people every week. Each of the Heart
stations across the UK has its own local breakfast show.
Although hearts target audience is slightly higher(25-44) aged
than ours for our documentary, we feel its still appropriate to
broadcast the documentary on Heart as the content Heart
covers is very similar to the topic of our documentary- phones,
They cover content which is slightly less serious and more
amusing which fits perfectly with our topic. Heart is a
commercial radio show which works well for us; our
documentary is featuring on channel 4 however channel 4
doesnt have any specific appropriate radio stations which is
why we decided heart was best suited.
Emma Bunton presents heart FM on a Saturday, she is from the
spice girls and therefore very well known by the younger
generation. Young peoples free time is mainly at the weekends
so they would be able to tune in and listen to her show. She is a
friendly chatty presenter which makes her likable and popular;
this kind of programme would appeal to our target audience.
This time slot is appropriate to air our advert as the majority of
the target audience will be free to listen on a Saturday. The

time our advert will be scheduled will be 4oclock this is when

Emma starts presenting, this time has been chosen as we want
Emma to present our advert and we want the advert around
the afternoon .This radio station-Heart isnt linked to channel 4
in any way however channel 4 dont have linked radio stations
so I felt this was the most appropriate one to use.
