Stanford Health Care RN Residency Program
Description:
The Stanford Hospital & Clinics RN Residency Program for new graduates is a comprehensive training program
for RNs. The residency program is a sequence of learning and work experiences planned to support graduate nurses
as they transition into their first professional positions for direct care roles in the academic acute care hospital
setting. The curriculum is divided into three topic areas that include leadership, patient outcomes, and professional
role. Leadership consists of resource management, communication and delegation, organization of data, and
managing the delivery of care. Patient outcomes focus on patient safety, patient pain management, evidence-based
skin care practice, patient teaching, and responding to emergencies. Finally, the professional role component entails
end of life care, diversity in the nursing care environment, evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes,
and stress management and self-care.
Educational Requirements:
Must be a graduate from a BSN or MSN program, accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), from 12/1/14 through
6/26/15.
Must pass NCLEX prior to starting the program.
Position Requirements:
Eight 8 hour seminars and concludes in the nurse residents presenting an evidence based project to peers,
colleagues, CNSs, Managers, and a Nurse Scientist.
Willing to commit to the one-year SHC New Graduate RN Residency Program with no foreseeable break in
service.
Must have no paid RN work experience.
Must have a current California RN license.
