Electronic Health Records are made of many things that work together to capture, create,
share, maintain, and store accurate patient health records. There are many new features to
upgrade the quality of health care records. Electronic Health Records are more easily accessed
by physicians, offices, and patient care staff. There are specific rules and regulations that you
must follow in order to keep the integrity of the health records. However, there are some
difficulties you face with EHR such as a non-existing template for a certain problem or visit.
Cloning is also a problem which results in unnecessary redundancy. I chose this article because I
see nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals easily access EHR to figure out
what specific tests are for, to see a patients diet, and also to see past medical history and records.

One of the most frequent users of Electronic Health Records are Physicians. Physician
practices have made great strides towards Electronic Health Records in the last several years.
Although, many practices are lagging behind due to the cost of EHR. Some also argue that
specialized EHR for physician use is absent. A rebuttal to this would be that there are ever
growing systems to accommodate the use for everyone. The Health Information Management
will play a huge role in every practice transitioning from paper records to electronic records.
Once again I chose this article because I feel in the loop seeing the use of Epic at Bethesda
North Hospital. We have paper charts because there are still few paper items but most are
electronic.
