Hidden History of Portland Oregon Reading Response
The Hidden History of Portland Oregon reading showed a darker side of Portlands
history. It is revealed that there were many wars between the Native American and the white
settlers in the 1800s. With every territory there is always some sort of dispute over the land,
usually leading to a war. I find this a very unfortunate aspect of settlements, and it is something
that should not be looked over or forgotten about over time. It is crazy to think of the people that
used to live in the place Portlanders now call home; how they were uprooted and forced to either
fight for their land with war, or just give it up.
I liked how the reading included all of the different cultures of the various tribes, and how
many of them had opposing views and daily habits. From varying class societies to trade objects,
each culture was unique and the rich history is something I would be interested in learning more
about.
