plants!

HOW PLANTS GROW

Plants can only grow under certain


conditions.
A condition is the way a living thing lives and what affects
their health.

WHAT DO PLANTS NEED?


Plants need nutrients, air, sunlight, space, water, and
warmth.
If a plant doesnt have these things, it will die.
In order to grow, plants need energy from the sun.
Just so you know:
Air is a mix or oxygen and carbon dioxide.

HOW DO PLANTS MAKE ENERGY?


Plants make their own energy to grow using a process
called photosynthesis.
Chlorophyll is a green substance that is contained in the
cells of a plants leaves.
Carbon dioxide from the air is combined with water from
the soil and this process creates sugar and other
substances.
The plant uses these substances from energy and growth.

HEALTHY PLANTS
A healthy plant has green leaves and stands up
strongly.
Roots take in water and minerals from the soil.
Minerals pass to the leaves and fruits through tubes
in the stem.
The flowers of a plant contain the pollen and the egg.

UNHEALTHY PLANTS

And unhealthy plant may be:


Deprived of water and lose its leaves
Deprived of light and leaves will turn yellow, thin, and spindly.

TO STAY HEALTHY

To stay healthy:
A plant needs to take water and nutrients from the soil.

HOW DO THEY MAKE FOOD?

A plant takes carbon dioxide from the air and uses it


with water and light to create food.
