Dear Judges:
My name is Emmaleigh Trump and I have spent the last three years at St. James High School. I
am taking English 4 Honors as a junior. Throughout my high school career I have taken three AP
classes, and I am currently taking two AP courses this year. I also a member of the National
Honors Society and the National Art Honors Society. Although the past 3 years of high school
have been great for me, I am looking forward to graduating next year.
I chose the changes in airport security following September 11, 2001 because it is something
everyone is affected by. The act of terrorism has had a lasting impact on the citizens, as well as
airports, in the United States. After extensive research on the topic, I learned that the
Transportation Security Administration was created as a result of 9/11. The TSAs top priority is
to keep travelers safe by implementing new technologies to make security more efficient.
Researching airport security has helped me understand the process that takes place in airports and
have more patience for the security process.
While working on my Senior Exploration project, I made several accomplishments. I was able to
find a sufficient amount of sources because of how controversial airport security is. The variety
of sources made writing my research papers easier. I was also able to job shadow an air traffic

controller, Mrs. Jennifer Hall. She even set up a tour around the airport for me. I was able to see
the layers of security at the Myrtle Beach Airport. Job shadowing was my favorite part of my
Senior Exploration because it allowed me to see the variety of jobs related to airports that I may
be interested in.
