Warsaw Old Town Trip

We will start at Plac Zamkowy under Zygmunts Column where we can see
Royal Castle at our right. Next we move through Plac Zamkowy to witojaska
street and when were going through this street we pass two churches. First is
Cathedral of John the Baptist which is the oldest church In Warsaw built in XIII-XIV
century. Many important events like crowning of polish kins or swearing in Polish
Constitution had place here. It was seriously damaged by nazist bombings in
1944. There are many valuable relicts. In crypts are many tombs of well-known
people like polish kings, presidents artists and spirituals/ecclesiastic. In naves are
many monuments and epitaphs. Next is Church of the Gracious Mother of God. It
was built in 1626 by Jesuits It is a building combining elements of Italian
architecture with elements of North European architecture. It got 65m high tower
in back of the church. Next we move to the Old Towns Market where are many
restaurants and we turn right there and go to Celna street. When well come to
Brzozowa street we turn right to panoramic point where we can see the
panorama of right side of Vistula. Next we go by Brzozowa street, and turn left
into Kamienne Schodki where we go upstairs. Then we go again through the
market and turn right to Nowomiejska street to Barbican built in 1548 which
didnt fulfill defensive functions because of evolution of artillery. Only historic
hunction of Barbican was that it was reflected from Swedes in 1656 during
Swedish Deluge. After this we go along defensive walls, where sometimes we
can see photo exhibitions, to the Plac Zamkowy.
The trip lasts about 1-2 hours or even more depending on how long well
stay to sight.
