To whom may concern: My name is Dania B. Myrthil, I have been attending Florida International University since Fall-term 2013. I did not have a ‘great recommendation to come to this university, since I was in Miami Dade College. People usually told me that FIU is a “terrible university, too hard to get into, and fit into that community. However, I did not let people discourage me and gave myself a chance to get my own experience and insights, from this university. Unfortunately, the first semester was really hard, not because of the professors, it was the transition of College vs. University. Then my personal issues (becoming, homeless), gave me another view of FIU. I did not find help and the right people to guide me on this difficult, but rewarding path, With a heavy heart, I decided to leave the Bachelor of Social Work for another time, and sat down with Gladys Ramos. She told me not leave the school and strive to pursue my dream. The same day J received a phone call from Ana Ramos, Foster Panther Pride (FPP). Ana helped me ‘through the process, to not quit the program, and helped me with psychological therapies through ‘Armeen and find a mentee, Cynthia Perez. Moreover, Ms. Ramos talked to the financial aid department to help me financially. But yet, something was missing in the “puzzle of success” to complete my ultimate success in my life. By talking to Ana and explaining to her that my grades are getting worse, she decided to refer me to the Center for Academic, where I met with Vicenta Shepard, Reading and Learning Coordinator, and she advised me to tutors to choose. I chose Federico Lastra, Reading and Learning Tutor. OMG! Federico is an amazing human being; not only helping me with my articles and boosting my grades, from C’s to A’s; but, also intellectually and with his wisdom and experience. He made nie feel that I could be anything that T want to be in my life. Federico has been increasing my self-esteem without him knowing. Also, hhe did not know that I was in the program of Ana Ramos (FPP), so this makes me feel like I can trust him even more. I do not like pity from people and I never felt that way by any of your workers at FIU. Thanks to FIU Staff that for doing a great job, making me believe that it is never too late or to not ever give it up! This is what will make me works towards finally finishing and graduating, and achieving my goal of becoming a social worker. Also, it will help me to give back to the community, since I am a survivor of domestic violence and I will be advocating for the rights of women. I also want to tell you that your FIU employees are doing what they are supposed to do, Helping students regardless of their SES, religion, and beliefs. My comerstones of success begins with Gladys Ramos and ends with Federico Lastra. I am very thankful to God and I will recommend this university to anyone that wants to push themselves to their limits. ‘Thanks to FIU I will pursue my dreams, a [AA in Psychology /Expected Graduate in Dee 2015, af BSW and Public Health
