Reflection for Health 1050-006

Chris Murdoch
I actually learned a lot of new information in this class. I would say it's probably
been my favorite class, due to its laid back course load. But the actual information
we have learned and discussed has also been very interesting. I learned about how
drugs work, not just about them. We learned how drugs work in your brain, and
how they interact with your neurons and neuro-transmitters, to produce the high.
We were told about each individual drug specifically. Learning where they came
from, how they are made, who used them, and what they do to you. So I ended up
learning a fair amount of historic information, even though it was always just about
a drug and how it related to that time, it does give me more information about the
time period in question. For example we learned about America during the
prohibition of alcohol, and about how cocaine was so popular that pope Leo xiii
drank vin Mariani, a mixture of wine and cocaine. We also had discussions about
topics relating to drug. We discussed the effects of legalizing drugs and what might
happen if certain countries were to do that. We talked about the idea of legalizing
marijuana for medical reasons and the pros and cons of doing that. A couple of
times we listened to guest speakers, and they were fun to listen to. We had one exalcoholic come in and talk about his experiences, that was really interesting and eye
opening.
With all this information, there's many ways it can benefit me. The topic of
drugs does interest me to no end, so if I ever went into a field revolving around
them, this class would be my first step into that world. But I think this class will
help me just by being knowledgeable of drugs. I'm a young person going to college,

now, perhaps more than ever, I will be offered drugs or have them available to me.
With that being said, being informed is the best way to ensure I make good
decisions about drugs and know the right way to handle them in my life.
